The Loomba Foundation Charity Dinner 2011: Speech by Kajol & Ajay Devgan

The Loomba Foundation is a charity that helps widows and their children. Many widows face discrimination and in some cases have to deal with torture, abuse, social exclusion and rape. In India for example many are ostracised and left to fend for themselves when they have no means of earning money. This can result in their children dropping out of school and having to work on the streets and in factories.

The Loomba Foundation's aims are to eradicate the plight of widows by lobbying governments and setting up programs to help them gain employment and educate their children. The Loomba Foundation was responsible for lobbying the United Nations (UN) so that every year on 23rd June, International Widows Day is a UN observance Day. This has enabled us to spread awareness and drive action, however, the issues faced by widows still persist.
