This video demonstrates tips for an aluminum welding test in the 3G position as shown in AWS D17.1 aerospace welding specifications. This test typically gets an X-ray test, also known as a radiographic test (RT).
There is also a provision for a bend test in lieu of X-ray, but most companies just use X-ray also known as radiographic testing or RT.
Proper cleaning very important for passing this test, which means filing the edge with a clean file and wire-brushing with a clean stainless wire brush, followed by an acetone wipe immediately prior to welding.
