GETTYSBURG CULPS HILL RAIN V1

You come to Gettysburg expecting to see it.

Clear views. Open ground. A battlefield that explains itself.

But some days, it doesn’t.

This is a drive across Culp’s Hill in the rain—starting at Spangler’s Spring, climbing Slocum Avenue, circling the summit, and returning past Stevens Knoll to Wainwright Avenue.

No sweeping vistas.
No perfect light.
Just fragments—road, trees, distance, and ground that never fully reveals itself.

For the soldiers who fought here in July 1863, clarity wasn’t guaranteed either. Lines bent. Visibility vanished. Decisions were made without a full picture of what was coming next.

This isn’t the Gettysburg you planned to see.

It might be closer to the one they experienced.
