“Line of Advance: Longstreet’s Brigades, July 2, 1863”

The Battle of Gettysburg (July 2, 1863) marked a critical moment in the American Civil War as the Confederate First Corps under James Longstreet advanced against Union positions south of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

This video documents the iron tablets marking the positions reached by eight Confederate brigades during that advance: Barksdale’s Brigade, Wofford’s Brigade, Anderson’s Brigade, Semmes’s Brigade, Kershaw’s Brigade, Law’s Brigade, Benning’s Brigade, and Robertson’s Brigade.

Located across key areas of the battlefield—including the Peach Orchard, Wheatfield, Devil’s Den, and Plum Run Valley—these markers represent how the Confederate line moved across the terrain during the July 2 assault. The tablets indicate general positions reached, reflecting the progression of the attack rather than a fixed line.

Filmed on location at Gettysburg National Military Park, this visual study highlights battlefield geography, troop movement, and historical interpretation through surviving field markers.
