How To Make Maple Syrup

Hey everyone, In this video we will show you how we make our maple syrup from the trees to the cans. Maple Syrup is made by boiling down sap that is produced by Maple trees in the late winter to the early spring. Sometimes the sugaring season is long and sometimes it's short. It all depends on the weather. Usually the ratio of Making Maple Syrup is 40 to 1 which means 40 gallons of sap makes 1 gallon of syrup. Some times it's more and sometimes it's less. You can tell that maple syrup is ready by the temperature. Maple syrup is ready when it boils at 219 degrees Fahrenheit. There are other ways of checking if you have syrup but taking the temperature and using a technic that we call webbing that we will show in the video works best for us. We are a small scale operation but we are planning to expand in the future.
I hope this video can either teach you something about the Syrup industry or help you improve your sugaring operation.
Hope you enjoy this video!!!

ABOUT US:
Welcome to Southwind Farms.
We are small farm located in Quebec Canada where we raise Beef cattle along with some other farm animals such as pigs chickens and rabbits. During the warmer months you will usually see us in the fields getting our crops in along with doing some upgrades to our farm and maybe some machinery projects. During the colder months we spend our time feeding our animals, logging on the weekends and in the spring time making maple syrup. We might be a small farm compared to some other farms. Nevertheless we are working towards growing the farm each and everyday to make it our full time job.
