The structure and form of this song are relatively straightforward, but with some sophisticated harmonic content typical of Noel's instinctive sense of songwriting.

Verse (A Dorian Mode)
Chord Progression: Am – D – G
Implied Mode: A Dorian (A–B–C–D–E–F#–G)
Sound: A minor tonality with a modal brightness due to the F#.
Noel’s Playing: Often uses an Am shape, but omits the C note, making it sound more like an A5 or riff-based figure.
Techniques: “Lazy A” fingering is common, barring D and G strings at the 2nd fret.
Open strings and offbeat accents give the part a rhythmic, driving feel.
Bonehead’s Part: Power chords rooted on low E (5th fret), mimicking the progression with a heavier sound.
Optional Variations: Am7, Dsus2, G5—all viable and add different character.

Pre-Chorus (A Harmonic Minor & Line Cliché)
Chord Progression: Am – G – D/F# – F – E
Tonality: Switches from A Dorian to A Harmonic Minor, indicated by the F and E chords.
Line Cliché Movement: G → D/F# → F → E mirrors the descending bass motion famously used in Beatles songs like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."
Noel’s Approach:
F often played as F/C (root on 3rd fret A string).
D/F# includes the low F# bass note.
Ends with a classic open E major.
Bonehead’s Approach: Barred power chords for thickness—A5, G5, D (5th fret A string), F (1st fret low E), and E major.
Variations: You can substitute E7 for more tension, or simplify chords depending on your comfort level.

Chorus (F Lydian Mode)
Chord Progression: F – C – G
Implied Mode: F Lydian (F–G–A–B–C–D–E)
Mood: Bright and uplifting—contrasts beautifully with the raw, minor-mode verses.
Noel’s Chords:
G5 (open), C (open), F/C (3rd fret A root).
Bonehead’s Chords: Barre chords rooted on low E and A strings (F, C, G).

Performance Tips:
Power Chords vs. Full Chords: Use power chords (5ths) for a more aggressive sound, especially in band settings. Use full open chords for more harmonic colour.
Feel Over Theory: While Noel’s choices often suggest modal intent, his playing is intuitive—focus on what sounds good and what fits the arrangement.
Experiment with Substitutions: Dsus2, Am7, and even G major vs. G5 can all shape the feel of your cover.
