Gooch, Edwin B-17 Navigator
Gooch was called up into service in the first of months of 1943 and joined the Army Air Corps. He started his training to be a pilot with included basic training in Miami, pre-flight training in Iowa, primary training in Santa Ana. His training to be a pilot was cut short by an accident and he then made the switch to navigation. He attended navigation school in San Marcos, Texas. He reported to Walla Walla, Washington for crew assignment and training, where he would be assigned to be a navigator. Gooch and his crew deployed to Europe via ship. Gooch's tour lasted until the end of the war, numbering 32 missions. During his interview Gooch recounts his experiences while serving during World War II.
