Project Blue Book - 1969| Movietone Moment | 17 December 2021

On this day in 1969, the U.S. Air Force closed its Project ''Blue Book'' which had started in 1952. Here is a British Movietone report about the investigation of a UFO sighting and the testing of a model of a flying saucer.

Sir Bernard Lovell, our great authority on space, believes there must be communications of other beings in different parts of the universe. We all accept the fantastic achievements of space flight - but what about flying saucers from the world beyond? This barley and potato field at Charlton provided considerable interest - and bewilderment. A crater was discovered there the other day by farmer Roy Blanchard. Around it, the spuds and barley had completely disappeared.
