Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp - 1945 | Movietone Moment | 15 April 2022

On this day in 1945, British troops liberated the German Bergen-Belsen Concentration camp. Here is a British Movietone report with unedited material filmed by British Movietone cameraman Paul Wyand when he entered the camp alongside British troops. Warning - graphic material.

BELSEN CONCENTRATION CAMP - REEL 1 & 2 - SOUND
Polish R.C.Priest interviewed. Bodies being loaded off lorries. Rev. T.J.Stretch - Pardre of camp speaks. 90ft. German Soldier speaking. Bodies loaded onto lorries. Germans - men and women speaking - woman officer marched off at gunpoint. Pits with bodies - guards and Burgomasters etc made to stand by grave while they are harrangued in German over loud speakers. 2 men who are being sick. Women internees shout abuse at guards. Bodies off lorries - insults being screamed. CU Allied officer at mike speaking in German which is going over loudspeakers. Reel 2. CU Klein speaking to camera. CU Woman speaking to camera. 150ft. British Commanding Officer. Lt.Col W.H Mather speaks of the dreadful sights. They have so far buried 17000 and will have to bury half as much again etc., Gunner Jim Illingworth speaks about the camp - it is beyond belief and he now knows what he has been fighting for etc., Major P J Fox Medical Corps - talking about what they are trying to do for the inmates. 90ft. Woman speaking with lots of women standing behind her - this is possibly a Polish Jewess who was an internee.
