“Teen Falls 45 Feet to Death on Zipline”: Agra Adventure Ride Under Scanner After Horror Accident
A 16-year-old boy died after falling nearly 45 feet during a zipline ride at Agra Chaupati in Uttar Pradesh after the pulley lock of the ride allegedly malfunctioned.
The tragic incident took place at the adventure zone located in Tajnagri Phase-2 area of Agra.
The deceased was identified as Kunal Agarwal, a Class XI student and resident of Firozabad, who had travelled to Agra with his family for an outing.
According to police, Kunal had visited the Taj Mahal with his parents and younger brother before insisting on trying the zipline attraction while the family was preparing to return home.
Police said the teenager had just begun the ride when the zipline allegedly malfunctioned moments after take-off. CCTV footage reportedly shows Kunal suddenly plunging from the height barely 10 feet away from the starting platform before crashing onto a lower structure and then falling to the ground.
The horrifying incident triggered panic among family members and bystanders, who rushed to rescue him and took him to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Kunal’s father, Pankaj Agarwal, a bangles trader from Firozabad, said the family had planned the Agra trip at the request of the children.
“We visited several places, watched a movie, and later went to Agra Chaupati in the evening. Kunal was very excited about the zipline ride. We bought a ₹400 ticket for him. Seconds after he started, we saw him falling,” he said.
The grieving father alleged gross negligence by those operating the zipline and blamed poor safety arrangements for his son’s death.
Based on his complaint, police registered a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against three persons, including the owner and manager of the zipline operation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Syed Ali Abbas said two accused — Santosh Kumar Dubey (58) and Abhishek (27) — have been arrested.
Police said preliminary investigation revealed serious lapses in safety measures at the site. Officials stated that the teenager was allegedly not provided a helmet, and no protective net or cushioning had been installed beneath the ride to minimise the impact in case of a fall.
Authorities added that the zipline stretches nearly 100 feet and is suspended at a height of around 45 feet above the ground.
A technical inspection of the equipment is now being carried out as part of the investigation.
