Ep. 3 | Rare Wildlife & South Africa’s National Bird | Addo Elephant National Park Safari

In Episode 3 of my South African safari series, we continue exploring the incredible biodiversity of Addo Elephant National Park on a self-drive adventure.

After an exciting lion sighting in Episode 2, today offers a completely different wildlife experience. Our morning drive is full of life, with sightings of kudu, buffalo, warthogs, red hartebeest, black-backed jackals, elephants, and zebras. The cool, overcast weather creates perfect conditions for observing animals that are normally hidden in the shade during warmer hours.

From dramatic encounters to fun moments—like a bird attacking our car during a quick toilet stop—this day is full of unexpected highlights.

While the lions from the day before remained elusive, we’re rewarded with repeat sightings of jackals, buffaloes, and elephants in the southern section of the park. And in the afternoon, just as we thought the day was winding down, we spotted something truly special: a pair of blue cranes – South Africa’s national bird, a symbol of bravery and elegance. It’s a rare and breathtaking sighting that made this day unforgettable.
