For this interview, Arshan caught up with DC the Don during KTO’s recent trip to Miami, Florida. Originally from Milwaukee, WI, DC the Don started releasing music towards the end of his successful high school basketball career at Chino Hills High School in California. His 2017 single, “Everything 1k”, was co-signed on social media by NBA player, Lonzo Ball, causing the song to blow up & trend on Twitter. After releasing two mixtapes, “DC Dahmer”(2018) & “DC Fridays”(2019), DC released his debut album, “Come As You Are”, in 2020. He then released the deluxe version of that project, with its song "Worst Day" garnering over 16 million streams on Spotify alone. Releasing singles consistently throughout 2021 & 2022, his “Sacred Heart (+)” deluxe mixtape released just months before his newest album, “FUNERAL”. He recently dropped a music video for the fan-favorite, “12am”, garnering over 300,000 views in 3 months.
During their conversation, Arshan & DC discuss his performance at the failed FouseyTube event in 2018, living with Poudii & DDG, and his reaction to making the 2023 XXL Freshman list. DC gives his thoughts on rappers that turn down opportunities, the most iconic XXL freestyle, earning respect as an artist, & wanting to be a role model for kids in Milwaukee. He also speaks on finding his own sound, touring w/ $NOT, & why he won’t speak about basketball after this interview.
They shift the conversation to talking about similarities between Carti fans, Taylor Swift fans, & DC fans, before discussing how DC’s new album, FUNERAL, sounds like “movie music”. DC talks about his love for movies, making his own cartoon, and potentially going to film school. They honor DC’s best friend, Sad Frosty, remembering how supportive & influential he was.
