AEF NEFL Eagle Cam 12-18-18: Romeo Defends Nest from Female Eagle Visitor

From the NEFL nest of Bald Eagles Romeo and Juliet. This is a segment of activity regarding a visiting mature female Bald Eagle coming into the nest where 2 eggs are being incubated. In this segment, the female forces Romeo off the nest for awhile, but then leaves to perch on a limb in the nest tree. Romeo then resumed brooding the eggs.

Background:
• On December 13th, Juliet displayed signs of battle wounds early in the day, indicating a scuffle with an intruder.

• Later that day on December 13th, Romeo defended the nest while successfully protecting both eggs from an intruding adult eagle. After a brief scuffle, Romeo successfully drove the visitor away.

• On December 17th , Juliet went missing in action and has yet to return to the nest; leaving Romeo all alone to protect the nest and incubate the eggs. Juliet’s abnormal period of absence from the nest during incubation has never occurred before. As of Dec. 17, Juliet has been absent for almost 2 days. Romeo continues his dedication in incubating the two eggs.
