Big Bear Eagle Cam ~ Shadow & Mrs BB Long Visit ~ Beaking, Love Nips & Teamwork 12.1.18

Shadow and Mrs BB come to the nest tonight and christen it after the first snowfall. Shadow arrives first and moves a few sticks before Mrs BB arrives. They spent about 45 minutes on the nest and there are quite a few moments of beaking & nips as they both work moving sticks. Shadow touches Mrs back feathers three times & she beaks back at him - an affectionate sign of courtship. Shadow will go to the left branch & then back to the nest. We get some great closeups of Mrs BB- she is a strong beauty. Shadow returns to the nest and they continue to move sticks - some bumping & pushing as the nest is small. Shadow will depart to the left branch first and then a couple minutes later Mrs BB will follow. This is a good sign that they will use this nest and it seems that Shadow will be the new male on the nest this season. He is maturing fast and is in the later part of his 4th year - most likely hatched in the spring of 2014. We do not know where Shadow hatched or who his parents are without banding and direct observation. Thank you for watching!
