Episode 16: Message in a Bottle

Things are looking up for Sean. He and Emma are back together. He’s a star on the basketball team. And he and Jimmy have buried the hatchet. Jimmy’s even invited him to a party. But the good feelings don’t last for long. When his brother quits his job, Sean becomes very aware of the insecurity of his home life. Is Tracker going to turn out to be like their deadbeat dad? Having dinner with Emma and her parents, in their well-established home, puts Sean on the defensive. The evening is awkward and doesn’t get better when Sean sneaks some wine in a misguided attempt to “relax.”

As the pressure he feels mounts, he over-reacts to something Emma’s mom says, storms out of the house and over to Jimmy’s party. Already tipsy, Sean continues his destructive behaviour with alcohol he takes from Jimmy’s kitchen. When Emma comes looking for him, Sean causes a scene that gets them both kicked out. Afterwards, Sean’s convinced he’s lost everything again. But Emma lets him know her feelings for him haven’t changed – but that his idea of alcohol as a solution to his problems is a big mistake.

It looks like sparks are being rekindled between Ashley and Jimmy – but who’ll make a move? Jimmy indirectly asks Ashley to his party – through Terri. This leaves Ashley unsure whether he really is interested. When she shows up at the party, Ashley feels out of place, especially when she thinks Jimmy’s ignoring her. Just as she’s about to leave, the two share an intense moment. By the following day at school, Ashley makes a move of her own – one that puts her and Jimmy back together again.
