Flick: Personalized Skateboard | By Renad Zaberi | Graphic Design Capstone Project 2026 | PMU - COAD

This capstone project explores how skateboards can be transformed from mass-produced sports equipment into meaningful personal expressions of identity, creativity, and self-expression.

The project proposes a personalized skateboard design system where each board becomes both a functional object and a creative canvas for storytelling. Through a simple digital platform, users can select colors, symbols, personal interests, and upload a portrait of themselves. These elements are then translated into a custom illustrated skateboard design that reflects each user’s personality, memories, and values.

Portrait-based illustration forms the core of the visual identity, while symbolic graphics, typography, and personalized design elements help communicate each user’s unique story. The research investigates how customization can strengthen emotional connection, ownership, and personal attachment to designed objects.

Using literature review, competitor analysis, user surveys, and design prototyping, the project presents a framework for creating skateboards that are not only rideable objects, but also meaningful personal artifacts that users can ride, display, and keep.

This project is part of the Graphic Design Capstone Presentations at the College of Architecture and Design, Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University.
