Paper Vision: Tactile Art for Blinds | By Safiya Alansri | Graphic Design Capstone 2026 | PMU - COAD
This capstone project, Beyond Touch by Safiya Al-Ansari, explores tactile art as a medium for emotional expression, imagination, and well-being among blind and visually impaired individuals.
The project proposes a tactile magazine that allows users to experience art, emotions, and storytelling through touch rather than sight. By using different textures, materials, surface qualities, braille writing, braille-inspired designs, pressure, and form, the magazine creates a non-visual artistic experience that supports accessibility and emotional communication.
Through an exploratory and user-centered design process, the project investigates how tactile elements can communicate mood, memory, narrative, and personal interpretation. Prototyping and participant feedback help refine the clarity, comfort, accessibility, and emotional impact of the tactile experience.
Beyond Touch challenges the visual dominance of traditional graphic design and highlights the importance of inclusive, multisensory design. The project aims to raise awareness about the limited availability of accessible art for visually impaired individuals while encouraging empathy, creativity, and independent self-expression.
This project is part of the Graphic Design Capstone Presentations at the College of Architecture and Design, Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University.
