Hello ho ho everyone! I was thinking about how different christmas is for me as an adult now so I thought it would be fun to reminisce about the past.
I have lived in Florida for %90 of my life so Christmas hasn't ever been cold for me but it has been interesting! Florida Christmas is certainly unique!
I mean Christmas Flamingos are a thing.
But my family has always been super big on christmas. Especially my sister who is christmas crazy!
Every year decorating the tree was always really fun and exciting. every year we got to pick out one new ornament to add to the tree so the tree was filled with all kinds of characters, pokemon, aladdin, scooby doo. If it was popular in the 90's it was probably on our tree.
We also lived super close to my grandparents and spent a lot of time with them so we always had a christmas dinner with them.
But my mom would always have us dress up in stiff shoes, panty hose and velvety christmas dresses.
Weather a lot of aunts and uncles showed up or not, I always had my grandparents there no matter what and now that my grandpa is gone and my grandmothers memories are fading, those memories I cherish a lot. My grandma made these delicious christmas cookies and a LOT of them.
I will always remember my grandfather and listening to the ray coniff singers christmas albums.
Every christmas eve my mom would give us matching pajamas and my sisters and I always slept in the same room. We would talk and play until late and then do our very best to try falling asleep even though we were so excited!
On top of gifts wrapped under the tree we also would have baskets of toys, and necessities layed out in little piles for each of us.
The rest was obviously opening gifts. Which was obviously suuuper fun as a kid. I remember getting lots of cool stuff that I liked. My mom was really good at listening and remembering the stuff we were interested in. Some of the gifts I really remember loving was when my sisters and I got a nintendo 64. I had always played super nintendo at friends houses or when I would visit my dad but I remember we wanted one SO BAD. We also got smash brothers, donkey kong 64 and hey you pikachu with it. I LOVED that systems and we still have it to this day! I also remember one year getting these ash and misty figures that I wanted so badly that I screamed and ran around the room when I opened them. As I got older though I think once of my favorite gifts was getting an entire action figure set of all of the lord of the rings characters.
My husband and I now spend a quiet christmas morning where we eat breakfast together, drink coffee and exchange gifts which I love. I will always look back fondly at the memories I had as a kid and miss those moments. But I will be sure to pass down the excitement, love and traditions to my own kids when I have them in the future.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!
