Mexico - Isla Mujeres - Day Trip

Isla Mujeres (Island of Women) is a beautiful, peaceful paradise just across the Bahia de Mujeres (Bay of Women) from Cancun, Mexico. We took a day trip to this laid-back island from Puerto Morelos since we had a rental car and could come and go as we pleased. It took us about 35 min to travel Federal Highway 307 down to Cancun where the Puerto Juarez ferry terminal is located. Parking was easy with valet for $100 Pesos for the day. The Ferry itself costs $380 pesos round trip. Whether you’re going for a day trip or for an extended vacation, this Island is extremely easy to do. For day trippers all you need is a backpack if you’re just sightseeing. If you plan on swimming bring whatever you need for before and after. There are many places to swim on Playa Norte that have lounge chairs and umbrellas and if you eat & drink like $100 pesos worth you can use them for free.

If you’re planning on staying there a while, there are many porters that are at the dock that will help you take your luggage from the terminal to wherever you’re staying for a small charge. Depending on your comfort level definitely get a golf cart or scooter to travel around this small island. Day rates are reasonable and extended stay deals get cheaper the longer you rent them. We opted for a golf cart from “Gomer’s”. It was gas powered so no chance of running out of juice and it operated perfectly. Golf carts and scooters rentals are located feet from the terminal once you walk onto the main street.

If you’re thinking about going to Isla Mujeres don’t think about it just do it. You will not be disappointed. Finally, a side note about crowds. I’m not sure if it was just a lucky day (Thursday January 28th 2021) or it was low season, Covid-19, or that this is just how it is here but there were not that many people here on this day so crowd comfort level was very comfortable.
