Nazare is famous for its long wide beaches and deliciously fresh fish, but the pièce de résistance is the found specifically at Praia do Norte or North Beach - home to the biggest surfable waves on the planet. Every winter, loads of professional big wave surfers descend on the town. They stay for months, checking the surf forecasts and waiting for the big swells to roll in. The Big Waves season in Nazare - is between October and March (the Winter season in Portugal).
