This sighting was one of pure luck and the age old rivalry for dominance between lions + leopards.

We entered the park at the Numbi gate and made our way towards Skukuza rest camp when we came across a pride of lions. While looking at the lions that were chasing giraffes without any success to hunt one, a leopard joined the scene. Once the leopard spotted the lions and they spotting him the leopard jumped into the nearest tree which I think was a Marula tree, and waited the drama out from there. The lions were quite interested in the leopard at first and after a few minutes of staring into the tree got bored and decided to wander off into the bush, after which the leopard came down and walked off towards Transport dam.

Seeing leopards +lions in Kruger National Park
Just as the central section is best for lions, probably the best area to see a leopard is along the river courses. Leopards love rivers - giving them easy access to plenty of water and the very large trees that are found on riverbanks which these cats climb to rest, hunt or devour their prey.

Self drive safaris in the Kruger National Park is definitely my favourite way to explore the park because I can drive as long as I want but I also know my way around the roads quite well.
