Germany's libero Franz Anton Benckenbauer is regarded as one of the all-time greats of the game. He's one of the most decorated player in the history of the sport having won pretty much everything he could have won wherever he landed, for his clubs or country, as a player or a manager. Having won 2 Ballon d'Ors, he is still as of today the only defender to have won more than one Ballon d'Or. A famous quote is regularly associated with his name: "People said we wouldn't have a new Pelé, we've got Maradona, people said we wouldn't have a new Maradona, we've got Messi, but we still haven't got a new Beckenbauer".
