Jones Falls Expressway Southbound (I-83 Inside the Baltimore Beltway)

Traveling southbound on Interstate 83 from I-695 (the Baltimore Beltway) in Brooklandville, Maryland, to its southern terminus in downtown Baltimore. I-83 inside the Baltimore Beltway is known as the Jones Falls Expressway, or the "JFX" by locals.

The Jones Falls Expressway was constructed by following the path of (and even partially covering) Jones Falls and building the interstate on top (this is why there is an 80 degree curve near the Charles Street overpass). The JFX is the first interstate highway to have been built in Baltimore, having opened in segments in the early '60s. Original plans intended for I-83 / JFX to continue south of its southern terminus all the way to I-95 at Interstate Avenue following President Street, Aliceanna Street, and Boston Street. These plans, however, were struck down by community opposition.
