Major art exhibitions at the State Russian Museum

A tour through the main painting exhibitions at the State Russia Museum in St. Petersburg. Classical music accompaniment on piano and cello.

The Russian Museum is like a trip through history featuring major works by Russian artists and of Russian subjects. Many famous portraits of the Czar families, writers and musicians.

The museum itself is the Mikailovsky Palace in St. Petersburg and it retains it's historic feel. Most rooms are lit by dim sunlight filtered through curtains which tends to reflect glare on the paintings making it a challenge to get good images. The supplemental electric lights can't eliminate the blue sheen on the shiny painting surfaces. I worked hard at it finding angles with the best picture quality.

Each room has a docent to watch over the collection and enforce the rules. They often are babushkas and fit right in its the traditional feel of the museum.
