Are you planning to travel Switzerland and are curious about what is the best travel experiences in Switzerland and what to do in the Swiss Alps? My travel diary on what to do in Switzerland in Summer will provide some inspiration.

The small Swiss lakeside village of Iseltwald and the surrounding villages in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland is truly one of the best places to visit in Switzerland. It is a somewhat hidden gem. It is one of the most beautiful lakeside villages of Switzerland and is situated at the shores of Lake Brienz (Brienzersee) in the Bernese Oberland in the Swiss Alps. Its picture perfect pituresque location on a small peninsula at the southern bank of Lake Brienz, or Brienzersee as the Swiss call it, makes it quite unique.

If you plan a trip to Switzerland, make sure you plan in a few days in the region around Lake Brienz. The lake itself is breathtakingly beautiful and the shimmering turquoise and emerald color of the water almost looks unreal. They reminded me of the shallow waters in the Indian Ocean or the Caribbean. Needless to say, Lake Brienz is super clean and you can of course swim in there.

On the eastern end of the village, Swiss chalets line the promenade of the Schorren Road. Check out the vegetable gardens, flower beets, and small cafes along the road. This road got to some fame in a Korean movie called “ Crash Landing on You”.

Iseltwald is a popular destination for backpackers and, in the winter, skiers that venture into the mountains of the Jungfraujoch region. You will find quite a few backpacker hostels and Bed and Breakfasts, as well as hotels. The Strandhotel with its beautiful waterfront restaurant overlooks the boat dock and the entire western side of the lake. From there you can also get a great view of the snow-capped mountains.

If you don’t plan to stay for the night in Iseltwald, I would factor in about 2 hours for your visit there. It is one of the most beautiful lakeside villages of the region and you definitely don’t want to miss it.
