Automotive Autobody Paint Tips and Tricks from bare metal to finish Clearcoat Part 1 Long Version

For over 30 years restored and painted antique automobiles as a hobby. This series of videos is for my YouTube followers who want to learn the right materials and the correct steps to do a quality automotive paint job right the first time. I've got about 3 hours just to tape the vehicle up with the 3m painter's plastic in preparation for primer. The neater you tape the better the final job looks. The first portion of this video is about 35 minutes. I explain what I use, everything from sandpaper to paint guns and setup of my work area.

3M Automotive Refinish Masking Tape, 06654, 36 mm x 55 m, Yellow, can still have oils left from fingerprints or hand prints that can ruin your day if you spray primer over it. Later in the video, I prep the bare metal with Prepsol to degrease it and use Crystal tack wipes to remove any dust that might have accumulated on the surface right before primer. Then mix up and spray one coat of epoxy primer to seal the bare metal on every part of the vehicle and then spray 4 coats of 2k primer. The manufacturer specs call for 4 coats of 2k primer. The reason for 4 coats, is so you have enough primer material on the surface to block sand to eliminate surface imperfections. any less than that you chance sanding through to bare metal and then you are mixing & respraying primer to fix the burn through to bare metal. The idea is to go forward not backwards.
