Heavy rainfall in the upper Krishna River basin has triggered significant flooding, leading to the opening of 10 gates at the Jurala Project in Mahbubnagar district. With an inflow of 66,000 cusecs, authorities are releasing water downstream to the Srisailam Dam. This marks a historic event, as it is the first time Jurala’s gates have been lifted in May. The project’s current storage stands at 5.516 TMC, against a full capacity of 9.657 TMC. The released water is expected to benefit farmers in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh by replenishing the Srisailam reservoir. If rainfall persists, inflows could reach 1.5 lakh cusecs by tomorrow, according to estimates. Officials are closely monitoring the situation to manage the flood effectively.
