How Street Art Can Breathe Life into a City | Emma Loughney | TEDxDublinInstituteofTechnology

What impact can Street Art have on a city and its community? In this talk Emma Loughney discusses how Street Art has rejuvenated an old Irish city, and how a grassroots idea is facilitating creativity and collaboration within the community.

Emma Loughney is a graduate of University College Dublin's Cultural Policy and Arts Management Masters Programme, her thesis research investigated how artists contribute to the rejuvenation of urban areas during economic downturn. She has been a member of the Waterford Walls Street Art Project team since the initiative was founded in 2015. Waterford Walls is now Ireland's largest Street Art Festival taking place in Waterford City every August. Emma has worked in the Arts and Education sectors for the last 6 years, and is fascinated by art forms old and new. She joined the core team of Waterford Walls Street Art Project as social media coordinator in its founding year. Her MA Thesis explored artist rejuvenation of vacant spaces and her paper on this topic was published in the VAI’s Visual Artists Newsheet.

She is Communications Manager and EducationUSA Advisor for the Fulbright Commission in Ireland and has provided children’s art and history workshops for the Little Museum of Dublin, RTÉ’s 1916 Centenary Programme, and the National Museum of Ireland. In her TEDx talk she will discuss how Street Art can breathe life into a city. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
