I recommend that if you are not familiar with Linux that you start with either Debian or Fedora. The other popular Linux distribution Ubuntu may be too much for those who are starting out. If you wish to have the Old Windows XP desktop, then choose Mate as your DE (Desktop Environment.)If you like the look of Windows 10, then choose Gnome. Remember most of Linux is free, so if you like, send a few supportive dollars to the distribution and to specific programs.
