Spanish Ladies (Traditional Naval Song)
- - - LYRICS/CHORDS BELOW - - -
So I've loved this song for some time (I love traditional folk songs :D). I especially love the Sarah Blasko version that was featured on "Turn: Washington's Spies" and I was inspired by her but used a different picking pattern and some different chords because it would've been boring to me to do it exactly the same (though if you're interested in the picking pattern she uses, I could do a video on that).
(Also, sorry about the video quality, video/audio is slightly out of sync. Just close your eyes :D)
LYRICS/CHORDS:
---Am-----------------------------F----------------G
Farewell and adieu to you, Spanish Ladies,
---Am-----------------------------F----------------G
Farewell and adieu to you, ladies of Spain;
--------------C---------------------G----------------Am-------------Em
For we have received orders for to sail to ol' England,
---------F-------------G-----------------Em---------Am
We hope in a short time to see you again.
---Am-------------------------------F----------------G
We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors,
---Am-------------------------------F----------------G
We'll rant and we'll roar all on the salt seas.
--------------C---------------------G----------Am-------------Em
Until we strike soundings in the channel of old England;
-------------F-------------G-----------------Em---------Am
From Ushant to Scilly ‘tis thirty five leagues.
We hove our ship to with the wind at sou'west, boys
We hove our ship to, deep soundings to take;
'Twas forty-five fathoms, with a white sandy bottom,
So we squared our main yard and up channel did make.
We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors,
We'll rant and we'll roar all on the salt seas.
Until we strike soundings in the channel of old England;
From Ushant to Scilly ‘tis thirty five leagues.
The first land we sighted was called the Dodman,
Next Ramshead off Plymouth, Start, Portland and Wight;
We sailed then by Beachie, by Fairlee and Dover,
Then bore straight away for the South Foreland light.
We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors,
We'll rant and we'll roar all on the salt seas.
Until we strike soundings in the channel of old England;
From Ushant to Scilly ‘tis thirty five leagues.
Now let every man drink off his full bumper,
And let every man drink off his full glass;
We'll drink and be jolly and drown melancholy,
And here's to the health of each true-hearted lass.
We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors,
We'll rant and we'll roar all on the salt seas.
Until we strike soundings in the channel of old England;
From Ushant to Scilly ‘tis thirty five leagues.
