Quick Fix: Add Margins to AI Posters with GIMP Canvas Expansion

In this video, I show a fast and effective way to add safe margins to AI-generated posters using GIMP. After ChatGPT created a great image for the "How to Use nl" tutorial, I needed extra space at the top and sides to ensure text wouldn't be cut off in YouTube thumbnails. Instead of regenerating or complex editing, I simply expanded the canvas and filled the new space with the existing background color for a seamless look.

The Workflow:

1.Generate Base Image:
"Create image: How to Use nl – Add Line Numbers to Files in Linux!"
Result: High-quality visual, but tight edges.

2.Expand Canvas in GIMP:
Open image in GIMP.
Go to Image → Canvas Size.
Increase width and height (e.g., +10% on each side or specific pixels).
Click Resize (layers stay centered by default).

3.Fill New Space Seamlessly:
Use the Color Picker Tool (O) to sample the background color from the edge of the original image.
Select the Bucket Fill Tool (Shift+B).
Click in the new empty canvas areas to fill them with the sampled color.
Result: A larger image with smooth, invisible borders.

4.Export:
Save as PNG/JPG for final use.

Anchor Position: In Canvas Size dialog, click the anchor box to position the original image (e.g., bottom-right if you only want top/left margins).
Safe Zones: Always add extra space where UI elements (play buttons, timestamps) will overlap.
