Creating Beautiful Surface Texture with Composite - Jason Smithson, BDS

In this Tip of the Month video, we show step-by-step how Jason Smithson, BDS was able to repair an existing Class IV with composite.

Materials used in this technique:

FlexiDiscs: https://www.cosmedent.com/product/flexidisc-mini-center/
FlexiCups: https://www.cosmedent.com/product/flexicups/

FlexiBuffs: https://www.cosmedent.com/product-category/finishing-and-polishing/buffs/
Enamelize: https://www.cosmedent.com/product/enamelize-polishing-paste/

The first part of the video shows the steps Dr. Smithson took to prepare for the repair, including different photo manipulations of the case to determine surface details, value, and shade. He removes the existing Class IV and uses Renamel® NANO Plus to create a mockup.

After isolating the teeth with a rubber dam and removing the mockup, Dr. Smithson preps the tooth, creating a 2mm intra-enamel bevel.

The second part of the video shows the sequence of composite layering, including the use of Renamel NANO Plus, Creative Color® Opaquers and Tints, and Renamel Microfill.

Next Dr. Smithson goes into detail on the polishing sequence to create line angles, incisal lobe anatomy, mamelon grooves, and horizontal perikymata. He finishes with a final polish with Enamelize to mimic natural enamel, as seen in the before and after.
