Cittaslow MOLD/Yr Wyddgrug 2011 -a Civic-FIRST for a Welsh town!
I love the Flintshire market town of Yr Wyddgrug / Mold.
The town has more than just a heart -it has a redoubtable spirit and guts! Never more evident than the way the place and the business and shopping community have evolved and adapted to changing consumer habits. My own High Street ventures in the town had brought me to the view that here was a place that, whilst welcoming the National big-name retailers, was prepared to pay more than just lip-service to the continued worth and support of local, owner-managed businesses.
When I heard that, by taking a bold initiative, Mold had become the first "Cittaslow" town in Wales -I decided to find out more.
So, on a typical crisp -but rain-blessed- morning in 2011, I first dropped-by on the good folk who regularly man the CITTASLOW information stall at the town's bustling street-market. What was revealed was an enthusiasm and freshness that would surely serve to bring about a modal-shift in attitudes to local life-styles and consumerism. I think this bodes well for a more equitable and sustainable future.
I must say we really enjoyed working with the very professional Cittaslow volunteers as they faced the camera to advocate for their lovely, heritage-rich town. You can follow goings-on in MOLD -and anything to do with Cittaslow and local events at www.cittaslowmold.co.uk
Best wishes to all concerned. JB & the Team ...2011
NB: It is intended that, in due course, this film will be made available for viewing via the Wales Archive, Peoples Collection, Aberystwyth, Wales.
