Bullet Seed/Solarbeam Tapu Bulu Duo Raid, Rainy Weather, Mega Rayquaza Only No Relobby
Tapu Bulu has returned to Legendary Raid. Similar to Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu caught in this rotation came with a new exclusive move - Nature's Madness.
Unfortunately, similar to Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu has no Fairy-type fast moves, such that it does not perform well as a Fairy-type attackers in gym/raid battles.
With its double weakness to Poison-type, it had been featured here in previous years where Mega Gengar and Mega Beedrill had fought against it. Specifically, with Poison-type resisting every single moves Tapu Bulu learns, Mega Gengar has defeated Tapu Bulu as a Duo Raid without weather boost and relobby. In the other hand, with extreme type advantages, Mega Beedrill can also defeat Tapu Bulu as Duo Raid without weather boost with a combat power as low as 1500.
Since Poison-type is the only type that is double effective against Tapu Bulu and they resists all of Tapu Bulu's moves, it is naturally the best choice against them. Without any new strong Poison-type Pokemon release or Poison-type Pokemon moveset buff in past year, there was not much change in the lineup of effective counters against Tapu Bulu.
The only exception is, once again, Mega Rayquaza. With its extreme power, Mega Rayquaza ranked as 3rd best counter against Tapu Bulu, only behind the aforementioned Mega Evolved Pokemons. While it is ranked as 3rd place, it has extremely similar performance as Mega Gengar, with only 1% difference in estimator.
Since it is similar as Mega Gengar in strength against Tapu Bulu, one would be curious if it can also defeat Tapu Bulu as a Duo Raid without weather boost and relobby. The answer is, yes. Even though Mega Rayquaza has less advantageous typing against Tapu Bulu, it has much higher defensive stats. With its double resistance against Grass-type move, it can fight for a long time against Tapu Bulu with Grass-type moveset, just like how Mega Gengar performed against Rock Smash/Megahorn Tapu Bulu.
This time, Mega Rayquaza is challenging Bullet Seed/Solarbeam Tapu Bulu as a Duo Raid without weather boost and relobby. To make it fair for Mega Gengar, Mega Rayquaza would also gave up the seasonal friendship bonus. Usually, when we fight against a raid boss with a 1-bar charged move, it is preferrable to stacking up charged move instead of using them immediately when they charged up. However, Mega Rayquaza's Air Slash also dealt high damage on Tapu Bulu, such that charged moves stacking does not have any effect in this battle. Since Mega Rayquaza has just enough TDO to defeat Tapu Bulu without fainting, the raid is completely depends on not encountering server issues as well as hoping for a favorable RNG where Tapu Bulu use Solarbeam less frequently than average.
