Poland grants humanitarian visa to Belarusian Olympic sprinter who refused to board flight home

Offers of asylum are pouring in for the Belarusian athlete who has refused to return home from Tokyo. Kristina Timanovskaya said her team attempted to send her home from Japan against her will, after she criticised team officials on social media. She said she believes her life would be in danger if she returned to her home country. Authorities in Belarus have cracked down on opposition figures after mass protests in 2020.The 24-year-old sprinter has since entered the Polish embassy in Tokyo, where she's been granted a humanitarian visa.
