Mariska Hargitay is everyone's favorite detective on Law & Order: SVU. Her time on Dick Wolf's hit Law and Order in the Special Victims Unit has made Detective Olivia Benson a household name, even after co-star Christopher Meloni left the NBC series. Ice T is still on the television show, but his TV presence isn't as memorable as Mariska's. Olivia Benson is so iconic that Taylor Swift even named her cat after the fictional character — that's how you know you've made it in Hollywood.

Before fighting crime in New York City on screen, Mariska was just the daughter of Mr Universe Miklós Hargitay and Playboy Playmate Jayne Mansfield. When she was little, Jayne died in a tragic car crash, and Mariska went on to California to study at UCLA.

She got her on-screen start in music, appearing in the background of several music videos. She also had small roles on shows like Jerry Seinfeld's Seinfeld, Ellen Degeneres' Ellen, and ER, as well as some films like Ghoulies. But her real break was SVU, where she plays Det. Benson and solves sexual assault cases in NYC. Her real-life work is just as impressive. She's an advocate for the #MeToo movement, and stands up for others who share their Me Too stories. She started Joyful Heart Foundation to help survivors and she even made a documentary I AM EVIDENCE. All her achievements have earned her Golden Globes, Emmys, and other awards.
