Episode 7: Teck Guan Cocoa Village (Part 1) - Cocoa Culture Spring
One of the biggest attractions in Tawau is Teck Guan Cocoa Village – home to the biggest cocoa plantation in Sabah. Besides a tour around the plantation, you can also enjoy other activities such as hiking to see the columnar basalt, having a picnic by the Majestic waterfall, ziplining (the first in Tawau), watching a demo of how cocoa is harvested, having lunch served with the sweetest produce of the estate, and staying the night to enjoy the outdoors.
In this episode, Gina Yap Lai Yoong and Juwita Suwito had to go through an hour’s hike but the reward was majestic and beautiful. So if you plan to follow their footsteps through Cocoa Culture Spring, here is a checklist for your preparation:
1) Wear proper shoes for hiking.
2) Bring drinking water.
3) Don’t go alone. Bring a friend.
4) Prepare to spend some time there to enjoy nature.
5) Bring your camera. Lots of great photo opportunities.
6) If you attract mosquitoes or you’re afraid of bugs, bring insect repellent.
7) You can also bring an umbrella, just in case it rains, but you can use it as your walking stick too!
We heard it’s a favourite hangout among the locals too, so if you’re there on a weekend, you can expect a crowd. But hey! Goodness is meant to be shared.
