Bengal Polls: EVM Tampering Row Erupts Over Taped BJP Symbol As EC Swings Into Action

A controversy emerged during the West Bengal elections after allegations of electronic voting machine tampering surfaced in a polling booth in Falta. A candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party claimed that a tape was pasted over the party symbol on the voting machine, preventing voters from pressing the button. The candidate accused workers from the Trinamool Congress of blocking the button and demanded a fresh poll in the affected booth. Meanwhile, a senior leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party visited various polling booths, urging citizens to vote in large numbers and requesting cooperation with polling officials to prevent further disruptions. The leader also alleged that some voters were facing threats. Following the complaints regarding the voting machine malfunction and tampering, the Election Commission intervened. Officials confirmed that the tape was successfully removed from the voting machine in the Falta booth, restoring normal access for voters. Election Commission observers remain stationed across the state to monitor the ongoing polling process.
