Supreme Court Takes Suo Motu Note Of Twisha Dowry Death Case Amid Former Judge Interference Claims

The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of a dowry death case from Madhya Pradesh, highlighting concerns over alleged judicial interference by the mother-in-law of the deceased, who is a former judge. During the hearing, the apex court noted that the involvement of the former judge could undermine a fair and impartial investigation and create a biased narrative. The court also urged the media to avoid sensationalising the matter and conducting a media trial while the Central Bureau of Investigation conducts its probe. Simultaneously, the Madhya Pradesh High Court is hearing a plea to cancel the anticipatory bail granted to the former judge. The Solicitor General informed the courts that the former judge is allegedly hampering the investigation by retaining control of the crime scene, evading police notices, and attempting to malign the deceased through media interviews, raising serious apprehensions about the destruction of evidence.
