How to Convert a Propane Grill to Natural Gas

In this video, house flipping brothers Dave and Rich show you how to convert a propane grill to natural gas.

Why would you want to do this?

2 main reasons:

1) Propane tanks are heavy and they run out. A grilling disaster would be if you are in the middle of a huge grill fest and your propane tank runs dry. Now you have half cooked food and you have to run out to get another propane tank!

2) This might be taste specific, but I think that food cooked with propane tastes like propane! Ack! Food cooked by natural gas tastes natural!

One disclaimer!!! Not all grills convert from propane to natural gas, so check you owner's manual to make sure you can convert your propane grill to natural gas!!!

What you are trying to achieve in this process is to remove the orifices from the grill burners. These are basically little plugs that confine the amount of gas that comes out of the burners. Propane shoots out of a really small orifice. Natural gas uses a much larger opening. So, once you remove the orifices, you are set for natural gas.

Basically you have to remove all the cooking grates and burners, then find where the propane orifices are located, and remove them with a 9/32 socket.

Then put everything back and hook up your gas line.

In this video we show you how to hook up a natural gas stub out to your grill.

Hopefully all you are doing is replacing an old grill with a new one. If that is the case, simply remove the gas line from the old grill and hook it to your new grill.
