Sanitize Travel Trailer Fresh Water System

Sanitize RV fresh water system. In this video I show you how I de-winterize and sanitize my fresh water system in my travel trailer. Things you will require, are a fresh water supply, Bleach and maybe a funnel if you so choose. I start by filling my fresh water tank to 1/2 full and then add the bleach. 1/4 cup bleach to every 15 gallons of water. In my case my RV door sticker says I have a 40 gallon system, including the hot water tank. My hot water tank is 6 gallons. So I subtract the 6 gallons from the 40 gallons listed on the door which should mean my trailer has a 34 gallon water tank. I will be using just over a 1/2 cup of bleach. Since I don't have a funnel I just pour the bleach directly into the hose and then when I fill the second half of the tank the bleach will be added.

Once my fresh water tank is full I check to make sure my hot water tank is bypassed. Which should have been done during winterizing of the trailer. There is no need to add bleach to the hot water tank and this will just add more work if you do it.

Before I turn on the water pump, I check to make sure the faucets are all turned off. Then i can turn on the water pump. I have an inline valve to allow water from the tank to the pump and I must durn this valve on so the water can get to the pump. As it turns out I have a leak from some previous work I had done to install a Camco winterizing kit. I don't show it in the video, but I replaced the hose and stopped the leak before continuing.

With the leak fixed, I turn on the water pump. Then I go to each faucet individually and turn them on. I want the pink antifreeze to come out of the facet and the water run clear. Once that is done and I smell bleach I move on to the next faucet. Don't forget any oudoor showers or taps you might have.

If you are able to take your trailer for a drive, it would assist in the water sloshing around the water tank helping it to sanitize. In my case I just let the water sit over night and then drain the tanks. I then fill the tanks with fresh water and run the taps until I can no longer smell bleach. I repeat this process about 2 more times.
