Zbog pandemije Korona virusa budžetski deficit republike Srbije se povećao za oko 4 milijarde eura za 2020. godinu. Zanimljivo je da se sa rebalansom budžeta za ovu godinu povećao i vojni budžet za nepunih 99 miliona eura tj sa 787,8 na 886,5 miliona eura.
U periodu od 2016. do 2020. godine potrošeno je oko milijardu eura na kupovinu i modernizaciju borbenih letelica kao i nabavku PVO sistema.
Od kupljenog naoružanja ostalo je da se isporuče francuski PVO raketni sistemi Mistral 3+, verovatno kineski PVO sistemi FK-3 kao i lovci MiG-29 koji su na remontu i modernizaciji u Belorusiji. Na vojnoj vežbi “ Sadejstvo 2020.” Predsednik Srbije je najavio nabavku još bespilotnih letelica iz još jedne “problenatične” zemlje, pa su mediji preneli da će to biti turski dronovi Bajraktar TB-2. Kako srpska delegacija do danas nije otputovala u Tursku upitno je da li će se ta nabavka realizovati, pre svega, jer je Turska pod kanadskim sankcijama na uvoz WESCAM optoelektronike kao i Rotax motora za ove bespilotne letelice. Prošle i ove godine predsednik Srbije je najavio u više izjava da će se nabavka naoružanja iz inostranstva usporiti u korist nabavke naoružanja i opreme iz domaće proizvodnje. Najavio je i potpisivanje ugovora sa Izraelom radi velike nabavke njihovog naoružanja, ali se do danas to nije desilo.
Ono što je izvesno je da će se od sledeće godine najviše nabavljati naoružanje za kopnenu vojsku, kao i da će se postojeće naoružanje modernizovati. Pre svega je u pitanju nabavka veće količine Lazar 3 borbeno-oklopnih vozila transportera, samohodnih haubica Nora B52 M15, nabavke novih serija BOV Miloš M16, kao i BOV KIV. Počeće se i sa nabavkom MRAP vozila M-20 za prevoz pešadije. Uskoro će se kompletirati isporuka i prvih deset domaćih PVO artiljerijsko-raketnih sistema kratkog dometa PASARS.
Što se tiče modernizacija postojeće tehnike najznačajniji projekti su početak modernizacije tenkova M-84 na nivo AS1, a kasnije i na nivo AS2, kao i modernizacija guseničnih BVP-a M-80A na nivo AB1. Takođe će biti modernizovana i samohodna haubica 2S1 Gvozdika ugradnjom sistema za upravljanje vatrom i navigacije radi povećanja preciznosti. Nastaviće se sa digitalizacijom višecevnih lansera raketa M-77, a u naoružanje će biti uvedeni višecevni lanseri raketa Morava i modularni Oganj.

He also announced the signing of an agreement with Israel for the purpose of large-scale procurement of their weapons, but that has not happened until today. What is certain is that from next year, most weapons will be procured for the army, as well as that the existing weapons will be modernized. First of all, it is a question of the procurement of a larger quantity of Lazar 3 armored combat vehicles, self-propelled howitzers Nora B52 M15, procurement of new series BOV Miloš M16, as well as BOV KIV. The procurement of MRAP vehicles M-20 for the transport of infantry will also begin. The delivery of the first ten domestic PASARS short-range artillery and missile air defense systems will be completed soon. Regarding the modernization of the existing equipment, the most significant projects are the beginning of the modernization of M-84 tanks to the level of AS1, and later to the level of AS2, as well as the modernization of crawler BVP M-80A to the level of AB1.
The 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer will also be modernized by installing a fire control and navigation system to increase accuracy. The digitalization of M-77 multi-barrel rocket launchers will continue, and multi-barrel Morava rocket launchers and modular Oganj will be introduced into armament.
