Lake District - Fairfield In A Blizzard - via St Sunday Crag
Fairfield via St Sunday Crag and Cofa Pike - I set off early on a cold winters morning for the 150 mile round trip to Patterdale in the Lake District.
My route would take me from Patterdale to the summit of St Sunday Crag (841m). From there I dropped down to Deepdale Hause before the scramble up Cofa Pike (823m), and onwards to Fairfield, the highest point of the day at 871m. I descended west from the summit plateau to Hause Gap, before turning north along the shore of Grisedale Tarn and down the Grisedale Valley, returning to Patterdale some 19km later. A fantastic walk of ever changing landscapes and scenery.
Leaving the car park just after 9am it was a cold, calm, morning with some stunning skies overhead. Conditions were very different by the time I reached the higher summits, with strong winds, fast moving clouds and bitterly cold temperatures. A good reminder of why its so important to plan for ever changing conditions, and to have/take the right gear, especially in winter. The weather in the valley is often not a reflection of the weather in the mountains.
Stay safe out there folks. Thanks for watching.
