This INNOVATION Changed Miter Saws! (Best Miter Saw Feature--Bosch "Glide"...Better than Rails!)

I wanted a new miter saw for the shop, so I picked the one I've been looking at for years now--the Bosch GCM12SD. This tool revolutionized miter saws when it came out five years ago!

The Bosch GCM12SD features the "Glide" system--a pair of aluminum axial arms that bring the miter saw motor and blade forward and backwards on sealed bearings.

This glide system allows the miter saw blade to reach nearly 14". That's a huge cut span! About 1-1/2" more than my old Dewalt 708, which was a great saw.

Most sliding compound miter saws rely on the rail system to bring the blade forward. But models like this suffer from "Rail Deterioration" when the bearings get worn out or gunked up. They occasionally need to be served.

The Bosch glide system is a huge improvement over the old rail system. It really does feel so smooth, it's hard to believe it has a 15-amp motor (also larger than my last 12" compound miter).

The glide system shrinks the footprint of the tool by eliminating saw "backswing"--the space that the rails need behind the saw to operate. The Bosch GCM has virtually no backswing, meaning it can sit very comfortably on a 24" table.

It has a unique bevel lock in the FRONT of the tool, rather than the back. So tilting the saw for a bevel is easy. And, it has all the usual miter detents on another easily manageable miter feature.
Plus, pull-out table extensions!

My only knock against the Bosch GCM12SD miter saw is that it's very large and heavy, so it most likely will need to be moved by 2 people, or a good rolling table. Also, it's very EXPENSIVE at $650-700!

Otherwise, it's a great miter saw all around, and I can't wait to use it so build more of the shop fixtures. Be sure to check back in soon for more videos!
