Technical Details:

This film captures the Floyd on their rarely filmed Animals tour. Although the picture is not super close, Charles' film had a lot of great definition, especially when the lights on stage are brighter. There are also some great segments of the background film and stage props, which are notoriously difficult to capture on 8mm.

I did not do too much in image processing as the film was in pretty nice shape (no major dirt/spot issues) so in the end I think I opted solely for some mild NR with Neat Video. All of the great sync work was done by WorldmanOne, I just had to patch it into the video.

The biggest issue was the handheld camera shake at this distance. However, due to the distance I was able to stabilize without losing much of the stage images. Segments that were extra shaky got more stabilization, and those near the edge of the film got none so they didn't get cut off. I also did some rotation (which I don't normally worry about) but in this case it works well to give a straight on stage appearance, even though the view is well to stage right.

This short film shows what a difference a quality transfer makes. AnalogKidAV did a 2k transfer which allows for nice definition even when zooming the picture in. So despite the stage being pretty far off in the distance, a great deal of on stage detail and color can be seen, and some amazing shots of a flying pig in the dark.
