We Were There, September 26, 2018

FDNY World Trade Center Responder Brenda B. and Lower Manhattan Worker Karen L. share their personal stories of September 11th in their 9/11 Tribute Museum presentation of We Were There on stage at the National September 11th Memorial Museum.

Brenda was off-duty and got to Manhattan via a police van along with other off-duty responders, crossing the Brooklyn Bridge just as the North Tower collapsed. Shortly thereafter, she met up with firefighters from her company and approached the site. Brenda knew 250 of the 343 firefighters killed on 9/11, and talks about her own recovery through volunteering and creating art inspired by the rebuilding of the World Trade Center.

Karen worked on Wall Street at Merrill Lynch, just a few blocks away from the World Trade Center. She was on her way to work on the morning of 9/11 when the buildings were hit. In the shadow of the South Tower when it collapsed, she ran to the edge of the Hudson River and jumped, from which she was rescued by an FDNY boat.
