How to Build Apple HomeKit Smart Home - Episode 1 - Intro

Welcome to my new series on how to build an Apple HomeKit Smart Home. Episode 1 is an introduction to what is to come in this series. My original video posted back in January 2020 was early on on my YouTube path. Now that I have a little more experience with filming, editing and being more comfortable in front of the camera I said to myself that I would redo this video.

This will be in a new format in terms of a series broken up into several episodes to help make the information more digestible. Subscribe to follow as each Thursday I will upload a new episode on how to build your Apple Smart Home.

I will not be covering Google Home and Amazon Alexa as I tested these with my existing devices and found compatibility issues and it wasn’t as intuitive or simple like Apple HomeKit. However feel free to watch and learn.

Why have a smart home? Control lights, temperature, humidity, security, it’s convenient, helps reduce running costs etc.

I show some examples of my current setup from turning lights on/off by saying “Hey Siri, Goodnight” or “Hey Siri, Good Morning” which solved my first problem. You can even sync scenes to your alarm to come on in the morning, use automations to control lights throughout the day and evening to set the scene accordingly.

For next weeks episode take a look on Apple’s website or Amazon for some smart home products and make a list of what you potentially like to buy, compare with the various brands and we create a plan in episode 2 and how it will all work together.
