Arduino and two 595 with a 4 digit 7 segment LED display - Anything Arduino ep 22
In this episode we connect the Arduino to a four segment 7 segment led display, with only three pins, with the help of two 74HC595. With a few more lines of code from episode 9 we can display 4 numbers at once using only three pins. A very simple and good way to go if you need to display more digits than just one. There is room in this setup to add another 4 digit display without adding more 595s and not having to add much more code (but a lot more of binary counting). I hope this Arduino Tutorial will help you understand more about working with multiple 74HC595.
Because I am moving soon, this will be the last Anything Arduino episode for a few months, until I have settled down in my new workshop.
If you want more information on how the counting and connecting was made please check out Anything Arduino episode 9 first. A lot of the things not talked about here is discussed in that tutorial.
