Introduction to BBC micro:bit

When we preparing Arduino programming course, we discovered MicroPython on ESP8266 and BBC micro:bit board. This is the introduction to BBC micro:bit, MicroPython and Mu Python editor. Later, we will create another video to compare Arduino Uno and micro:bit.

What is BBC micro:bit? Micro:Bit is an open source hardware ARM based embedded system designed by the BBC for use in computer education in the UK. It was first announced on the launch of BBC’s Make It Digital campaign on 12 March 2015 with the intent of delivering 1 million *** free *** devices to pupils in the UK.

From Wikipedia: Feb 2016, 1 Million Free micro:bit were distributed.

For the beginner, we recommend to buy the "Micro:Bit Go" package which includes an USB cable, and a (2 AAA) battery holder. micro:bit costs from CAD $24 to $30. Remember to check the shipping cost.

micro:bit is small device which has accelerometer, magnetometer sensors, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, 5x5 LEDs, two buttons, and can be powered by either USB or an external battery pack. micro:bit does not need a new device driver, and it appears as an USB drive on both Mac and Windows.

By default, Mu editor saves the files to /Users/{uid}/mu_code/PythonCode directory. All additional Python import files will keep in the mu_code directory.
