Christmas Unity in Diversity: Christmas 2020 Message from the Eparchial Youth People of Saskatoon

A Christmas Story: "Christmas in Canada - Christmas Unity in Diversity"
- 2020 Christmas Message - from the Youth and Young Adults of the Eparchy of Saskatoon.

Forward of Support from Bishop Bryan Bayda, CSsR, of the Saskatoon Eparchial Youth Christmas Message Video 2020: “Christmas in Canada – Christmas Unity in Diversity”.

I am very pleased that the Saskatoon Eparchial Youth Office has been so active recently. They have taken to heart in their Christmas message video important themes in our Eparchy of Saskatoon. One theme from the Vibrant Parish focus is to be missionary disciples beyond the parish borders, reaching out to others regardless of race or religion to bring God’s message of peace, cooperation and unlimited love. This theme is also present in the post-synodal letter written by our Patriarch on behalf of the entire Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The letter entitled “ONLY ONE THING WILL REMAIN YOURS – THAT WHICH YOU HAVE GIVEN TO THE POOR” given in Kyiv, at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, on the day of the Holy Martyr Loginus the Centurion, October 29, 2020 A.D. It says in its closing paragraph,

27. Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ! We wish to be ever more a Church that goes out to serve—this is our program, our dream, our direction forward. First of all, we must serve those who are closest to us and feel the absence of attention, support, and comfort. But the law and commandment of love has universal application and character. Therefore, our Church—in Ukraine and abroad—must learn to reach out ever more beyond the confines of parish, denominational, and ethnic “enclosures” in order to open up in merciful love to all the suffering and destitute, with no regard for denominational or religious membership, race, gender, or age. The only thing that should lead us to an encounter with them is the love of Christ, which inspires us and moves us to action (see 2 Cor 5:14). For a child of God there are no strangers—no foreign human fate, misery, or misfortune. All of us are children of the same Heavenly Father and members of the same human and divine family. Therefore, we have a task and a commission, which we have received from our Savior in the parable of the merciful Samaritan, as a parting word, a testament and command: “You go, and do likewise!” (Lk 10:36).

The Youth of our Eparchy are reaching out to non-Catholics, non-Christians and to all people, regardless of age, race or persuasion, with a message of love that is nurtured in their homes and in their parishes. God has given them to each of us as an example of Christian Missionary Discipleship.

In Christ,

Bishop Bryan Bayda, CSsR
Eparch of the Eparchy of Saskatoon
Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy of Toronto and Eastern Canada
